How to choose a diagnostic centre in Bangalore: a 2026 guide
NABL accreditation, turnaround, sample-collection hygiene, repeat-test policy — the checklist Bengaluru patients actually need.
Bangalore has over 6,000 diagnostic centres — pathology labs, radiology units, and full-service chains. Most patients pick whichever lab is nearest, then discover the report was delayed, the price quoted on the phone wasn't the final price, or the sample had to be redrawn. Use this checklist before you book.
1. Look for NABL accreditation first
NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) certifies that a lab follows ISO 15189 standards: trained technicians, calibrated equipment, internal quality controls, and an external proficiency-testing programme. In Bengaluru, NABL-accredited labs include most branches of large chains plus several independent labs in Koramangala, Indiranagar, Jayanagar, and Whitefield. Ask for the NABL certificate number — every accredited lab will show it on the report header.
For radiology (MRI, CT, ultrasound) the equivalent is NABH accreditation of the imaging centre and qualifications (DNB/MD Radiology) of the reporting radiologist. Don't accept a scan without a named radiologist on the report.
2. Confirm the price in writing before you go
Bengaluru list prices vary 2x to 5x for the same test. A lipid profile can be ₹350 at a neighbourhood lab and ₹1,400 at a hospital chain. WhatsApp a screenshot of the test name to the centre and ask for the all-inclusive price (consumables, home-visit fee, GST). Save the reply. If the bill at the counter is higher, show the message.

If a centre quotes 48-72 hours for a CBC, the sample is being couriered to a parent lab in another city — the report is fine, but ask whether you need it that fast.
4. Watch how the sample is collected
A clean draw matters more than the brand on the door. A trained phlebotomist will: confirm your name and the test list, label the vial in front of you, use a fresh single-use needle, and apply pressure for 60+ seconds. If you feel rushed, ask for a second technician. Botched draws cause hemolysis, which invalidates electrolyte, LDH, and potassium results.
5. Ask about repeat-test policy
The best Bengaluru labs reprocess a sample free if a result is flagged abnormal or if the technician suspects contamination. Cheaper labs charge you for the redraw. Get this policy on paper.
6. Home sample collection: read the small print
Almost every major Bangalore lab offers home visits. Confirm: visit charge (₹100-₹250 typical), time window (most labs do 6am-10am for fasting tests), and whether the phlebotomist will wait for a second urine sample if needed. Whitefield, Sarjapur Road, and Electronic City have the longest wait times — book the night before.
7. Verify the report digitally
