Urine test cost in Bangalore: what to expect in 2026
A urinalysis is one of the most affordable diagnostic tests available. Here is what it checks, what it costs at Bangalore labs, and how to collect a proper sample.
$## What a urine test checks
A routine urinalysis (urine test) examines your urine for indicators of infection, kidney disease, diabetes, and other conditions. The standard test includes:
Physical examination: Colour, clarity, and odour.
Chemical analysis (dipstick): Checks for glucose (diabetes indicator), protein (kidney disease indicator), blood, nitrites and leucocyte esterase (infection indicators), ketones, bilirubin, and pH.
Microscopic examination: If the dipstick is abnormal, the sample is viewed under a microscope to identify red blood cells, white blood cells, bacteria, and casts.
A urine culture is a separate, more detailed test ordered when a urinary tract infection is suspected but needs confirmation and antibiotic sensitivity testing.
Typical prices at Bangalore labs
Routine urinalysis: Rs. 50 to 200
One of the most affordable diagnostic tests available. Independent neighbourhood labs charge Rs. 50 to 100. Chain labs and hospital units typically charge Rs. 100 to 250.
Urine culture and sensitivity: Rs. 300 to 700
This is a microbiological test that takes 48 to 72 hours to return results. It identifies the specific bacteria causing an infection and which antibiotics will be effective.
24-hour urine collection tests: Rs. 500 to 2,000 depending on what is being measured (protein, creatinine, electrolytes). Your doctor will provide specific instructions if this is ordered.
How to collect a urine sample correctly
A contaminated sample produces unreliable results. The correct method:
- Use the first urine of the morning (most concentrated).
- Let a small amount pass, then collect the mid-stream portion in the container provided by the lab.
- Do not touch the inside of the container.
- Deliver the sample to the lab within 1 to 2 hours of collection, or refrigerate it briefly if there is a delay.
Most labs provide a sterile collection container. If getting home collection, the phlebotomist will leave a container the night before or ask you to collect in the morning.
How long do results take?
Routine urinalysis: 2 to 6 hours. Urine culture: 48 to 72 hours.
